'I am on deathbed... am telling the truth'

Shakeela is horrified. First, a deadly disease struck her. Then came the rape. And now the allegations of her being raped by a neighbour.

Im on my deathbed. I swear on God, Im telling the truth, Shakeela, the girl who was allegedly raped at the Tata Memorial Hospital, told her parents when the news of the arrest reached the family. The Bhoiwada police arrested Feroz Khan on charges of raping Shakeela (name changed).

The family alleges that the cops are trying to end the probe as soon as possible. This is a lie, said Israel Khan, Shakeelas uncle when he heard the news. The police want to resolve the matter as soon as possible, and is not concerned with finding out the truth.

Twenty-six-year-old Feroz Khan, a resident of Bhagat Singh Nagar slum colony, is the son of a carpenter.

Ferozs family is poor and the boy lives in our chawl. But I dont believe that he committed this deed. We have no complaints against him, said Israel, alleging that the boy might have buckled under pressure from the police.

The Khans have not received any official communication from the police. Some policemen came to our chawl and took five of our neighbours for questioning at #8.30 pm. It is possible that the police might have pressured them as well.

We will gladly give our consent to a DNA test. Let an unbiased body perform the test. The truth will be revealed, he challenged.

Shakeela even now insists that she was raped at the Tata Memorial Hospital.

She says that she is not lying. We questioned her repeatedly, but she still maintains her stand, said Israel.

With Shakeelas condition rapidly deteriorating, the familys primary concern right now is her health.

Shes suffering. A doctor from Delhi has promised treatment. We will send Shakeela and her mother to Delhi for treatment. We still have faith in God, said Jamal Khan, Shakeelas father.

Dr Narayan HKV, medical superintendent, TMH, said, We are yet to receive a communication from the police. If it is true, we are relieved that the matter has been cleared up.
