Editor of Mumbai daily held on extortion charge

MUMBAI: An editor of a local daily was arrested with another person for allegedly trying to extort Rs30,000 from a cutlery stall owner in south Mumbai, police said on Wednesday.

Sohan Jain, editor of 'Vividh Samachar', was arrested along with one Balu Naval from the publication's office in Dongri late on Tuesday evening for demanding the extortion sum, they said.

"The accused had been publishing false news articles about Gunasingh Nadar's cutlery business since March this year and threatened him that he would have to shut his shop if the stories continue to appear in the paper and demanded Rs30,000 as an extortion sum," they said.
